    Executive summary

Making Vinyl describes itself as the meeting point of the vinyl record industry, and consults for large industry associations. In 2026 it asked us to build a new service: a marketplace where companies across the global vinyl supply chain can list and find equipment, parts, materials and services.

We designed and developed the Making Vinyl Marketplace on Shopify between August and October 2026, with listing submission, an approval process, a buyer inquiry workflow and the pages that explain how it all works. The client rated the project 5.0 out of 5 in a verified review on Clutch.

    The challenge

The vinyl record industry is small, specialised and global. Pressing plants, mastering studios and suppliers buy and sell lathes, presses, molds, PVC compound, sleeves and services, often second-hand and across borders. Making Vinyl wanted a product marketplace and exchange forum for this community, with two requirements:

    • Quality control. Every listing had to be reviewed before it appeared, so buyers could trust what they found.
    • No middleman bottleneck. Buyers needed to reach sellers directly, while Making Vinyl stayed informed about every conversation.

    The solution

A branded marketplace with clear categories

We built the marketplace on Shopify, with listings organised into four categories (equipment, parts, materials and services), filters for condition and location, a featured-listing layout, and search with popular shortcuts for the items the industry looks for most.

Every verified listing in one place, filtered by category and condition.

    Listing pages built around inquiries

Many industrial items are priced on request, so each listing page leads to a Request information action rather than a cart. Listings show condition, location, availability and a verified supplier badge, and inquiries are managed through the platform.

    Five-step listing submission with review

Sellers submit listings through a guided form in five steps: category, details, media, supplier and review. A photo is required, and on submission the seller sees a confirmation that approval may take up to 24 hours while Making Vinyl reviews it.

An inquiry workflow that keeps everyone informed

When a buyer asks about a listing, the inquiry goes to both the seller and the Making Vinyl team. Buyers and sellers talk directly, and Making Vinyl keeps visibility over activity on the marketplace without having to forward every message.

    Pages that explain the marketplace

We designed and built the informational pages, including how the marketplace works, the benefits for buyers and sellers, and how to contact the team, then handled final revisions and launch support to prepare the platform for public use.

    How we worked

A team of two to five people from Algoseed Labs worked with Making Vinyl through virtual meetings, with regular reviews and refinements as requirements evolved. In the client's words, Deep and Nick listened carefully to their needs, welcomed feedback and helped turn the vision into a finished product that was better than they imagined.

    Results

    • A complete marketplace that exceeded expectations, launched for public use in October 2026.
    • Less manual work for Making Vinyl: buyer inquiries reach the seller and the team at the same time, so the team no longer acts as the middleman.
    • Positive early feedback from users, and a practical foundation for growing a new service.
    • 5.0 across the board on Clutch: quality, schedule, cost and willingness to refer.

It is still too early to report traffic, listing volume or sales, and we'll update this case study as those numbers come in.

    A long-term relationship

This is our second project with Making Vinyl. In 2021 we built the company's Shopify e-commerce store, which its co-founder also reviewed on Clutch. See our e-commerce and Shopify development services, or read how to choose an e-commerce agency.
